Fort Lauderdale Beach was considered one of the best kept secrets of Fort Lauderdale for many years. Located just south of Oakland Park Boulevard and A1A, Fort Lauderdale Beach was establish in 1949 and it is the only neighborhood in the City of Fort Lauderdale where homes are built directly on the ocean. The guar-gated community is less than a mile long stretch and there are about 49 homes on the ocean with about 200 additional homes non-ocean front.
Just like many other neighborhoods in the east side of Fort Lauderdale, this neighborhood is also in transition. Many years ago, Fort Lauderdale Beach’s residents were mostly older couples escaping the intense winter from the northern states. Today, the neighborhood is a more diverse community with many residents being permanent and others visiting during the winter months.
