Imperial Point

Imperial

In the early 50s, the idea of vacationing in South Florida became prominent in the northern states. Many speculated that within ten years it will only take one hour to fly from New York to Fort Lauderdale. With this idea in mind, many neighborhoods boomed in South Florida. Imperial Point was one of those neighborhoods.

Imperial Point sits just North of Federal Highway, between NE 56th Street and McNabb road, and east of NE 18th Ave, the spindly Imperial Point drive, which held the original models for the community, was develop in 1961. After a fast sale, the construction began with models like Oxford, Westminster, Empire and Windsor. However, even with the royal names, the homes were totally Florida style.

Today, Imperial Point holds its charm. The streets have sidewalks for residents to enjoy, the power lines are situated behind the homes and not in the front, and even through time, the sense of community remains strong.
